Sunday:
Charlotte has just helped me to open this blog.
I've set it up in order to channel any enquiries about me in hospital....

Charlotte will put something on every day.
I go into hospital on wednesday at 12 noon, and have the operation the next day the 20th, so there won't be any more on this blog till after the op.
My only fear at the moment is that I might get a cold and have to postpone the op. Having psyched up for it now, that would be v. boring.

Reason for Operation
I was diagnosed 3 years ago with carcinoid endochrine tumours which are a) very rare and b) very slow growing. They are the nearest you can get to benign without actually being benign. They produce hormones and give me no trouble at all. The specialist said that if they had gone undiagnosed I might not have noticed anything for ages, apart from having hot flushes.
One of these tumours which is near the colon has started to produce some substance which is apparently very like the inside of a coconut. This is what they want to get rid of, as if it grows much bigger it could interfere with my colon. The surgeon will probably have to cut into the colon to get it all out, which is what makes this quite a big operation. They say I should be in hospital minimum of 7 days, max 10.

Dearest Tessa

Needed Tatyana to help me set up this! Have to be in Hampstead all day Thursday waiting for an electrician to change a meter for our flat, about 200 yards away from the Royal Free. I'll drop the book by that I've been promising you but not expect to see you then.
Please go on supplying all your friends with graphic and interesting details. Eat very well on Tuesday, and as soon as you are receiving we'll bring you delicacies from the Rosslyn Hill Deli, the best in London. To restore your health and appetite.
Much, much love and good luck,

Penny and Paul

Dear Tessa,
All our thoughts and prayers are with you for Wednesday and Thursday, What a good idea to set up a blog so that we can find out how you are. We look forward to the "and beyond" bit when you're back on your feet again.
much love Marie and Daniel

Tessa, dear:

Glad the NYTimes came as a happy surprise. Will keep my eyes peeled for any further coverage. Spent 20 yrs in PR agencies so well-aware how valuable those pieces can be. Do hope your US publicist is hustling like crazy as the book is a great Christmas gift.

Will keep all digits crossed to ensure this week passes swiftly and successfully for you, pal, and will focus on your coming to Manhattan in the none-too-distant future for a long-overdue reunion.

Much love,

Betsy

Dearest Wheelers
That's fantastic news, and if Tessa is a bit dozy for the Archers and Eastenders, then she can catch up on both the omnibuses - omnibusi - on Sunday. But clearly as soon as she came out of the op she knew what news she had to catch up on.
Saw her very briefly on Thursday before her op and she has an amazing view from her room right across London, even as far as Windsor Castle on the horizon, we think. So the Queen can wave to her.

Lots of love
Penny

If you and Charlotte can work this out and get the messages, then that's all that matters, but the whole system defeats me, especially the instructions which are unintelligible. I thought I'd count as a follower but my silhouette isn't up there, whereas Paul's is, but he hasn't sent any messages. Would even reveal myself in colour as Jasper has done if I knew how. Hope removing the epidural hasn't made everything too painful. I like your reference to your 'blod' - the influence I suppose of being in hospital. Hope to see you tomorrow evening, and do watch Eastenders tonight - it's a cracker. Max discharges himself from hospital determined to learn the truth. Poor Max - it's been quite a year for him: first his wife buries him in a coffin, where his mobile doesn't work; then she runs him over. Since he's still alive, she's bound to have more treats in store. What boring lives the rest of us lead. Lots of love and see you tomorrow, if you're OK. Penny
